Quality and Care of Sue Hill Clothing

All our pure cashmere and cotton cashmere blend clothing is hand knitted in the UK in Loro Piana yarn. Loro Piana is the largest cashmere manufacturer in the western world, producing superior quality yarns using sophisticated technology and a commitment to achieving the finest quality final product. We are proud to say that Loro Piana twist and dye their yarn exclusively for us so that we can hand knit classic styles in the best available yarns.

We recommend that you wash your cashmere garment in lukewarm water using a specialist mild detergent.

When you are washing by hand, squeeze the suds gently through the fabric and do not rub, wring or stretch the fabric in any way. Then rinse carefully in clean lukewarm water (more than once) until all the detergent has been removed and the water runs clear.

Soaking wet cashmere knitwear should only be lifted after the excess water has been squeezed out (or has been on a slow spin cycle in the machine) as it may stretch if you are not careful.  Lay flat to dry. Press gently with a medium iron

Our super soft merino cashmere blend is twisted and dyed exclusively for us by Botto Poala and Botto Giuseppe, an Italian company group founded in 1876. Their production of yarns in silk, merino and cashmere are well known worldwide and their quality is first class. Their ability to reproduce our chosen colour tones means that we can introduce new styles in exciting new shades each winter season.

You can hand wash your merino cashmere blend garment in the same way as pure cashmere. Alternatively you can machine wash it on a hand wash or delicates wash at no higher than 30* with a reduced speed spin cycle. BE CAREFUL, do not machine wash on a normal 30* cycle with full drum rotation as this will destroy the fibres and produce a matted effect.

Pure cashmere and merino cashmere blend is a very fine natural fibre. Knitwear containing cashmere fibres requires care and attention but will reward you by lasting a long time and continuing to feel soft wash after wash if it is well cared for.

After the first few 'wears' you may find small balls, or bobbles, of fibre forming on the surface of your cashmere knitwear. These small balls are caused by some of the loose fibres rubbing together during wear, for example under the arms or on the elbows and sleeves of cashmere jumpers and sweaters.

This 'pilling' does not indicate inferior quality cashmere knitwear; it is the result of wearing such a fine fibre. The bobbles can be easily removed, either by carefully picking the balls off by hand or by using a cashmere comb or fabric shaver available from department stores or supermarkets.

Once you have removed the pilling, the cashmere garment will increase in softness and become even lovelier to handle. The bobbles will decrease over time if you care for your cashmere knitwear carefully.

Liberty London

All our girls party dresses, day dresses, blouses and shirts are hand made in the UK in Liberty print fabric which is still mainly dyed and produced in the UK. The superior quality pure cotton and linen fabrics for our embroidered day dresses, bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses and christening outfits come from a Belgian supplier and we also buy top quality shirting fabrics for our boys shirts from a UK manufacturer.

All our cotton and linen fabrics are 100% natural and can be machine washed at 30*. The superior quality of the fabric we use means that every garment can be washed and worn over and over again, then passed on or put away for the next generation.
